Nick Szabo is a legal scholar, computer scientist, and cryptographer. In a 1994 paper, he introduced the concept for smart contracts before creating the Bit Gold concept in 1998. Bit Gold was one of the first proposals for a decentralized digital currency and is regarded as a precursor to Bitcoin.
