About Vitalik Buterin
Vitalik Buterin is co-founder of Ethereum. He grew an interest in decentralization after quitting long-played game World of Warcraft. Blizzard Entertainment's update to the game was devastating for Vitalik, before he learned about Bitcoin in 2011.
Following his own research into the decentralized use and value of Bitcoin, Buterin wrote for Bitcoin Weekly and later co-founded Bitcoin Magazine with Mihai Alisie in 2012.
After exploring Bitcoin and blockchain projects around the world, Vitalik Buterin noticed what Bitcoin was missing: a general-use scripting language on the platform. This led to his development of Ethereum.
Ethereum's white paper was published in 2012, announcing the new open-source blockchain that smart contracts and dApps (decentralized applications) are now built and stored upon. Buterin and team members continue to work on Ethereum, coming up with new ideas for scalability and security for its users.
